Inspiration

Pen clicking on the desk

Breaths of fresh air

Pen clicking on the desk

Breaths of cold air

Pen clicking on the desk

Breaths of dry air

Throat closing

Mind racing

Music blasting

Feelings pulsing through your body as you struggle to decide how to live

Deadline after deadline

heart starting to flatline

What is it that you want?

What is it that you want?

What is it that makes you get up in the morning

What is it that makes you whistle while you work.

Who does it
Where does it come from

No

Where do you come from

Pen clicking on the desk

Your mother's hair touches her neck, coarse and tight as she works on her doctorate

Doctorate

In school for a while, you think

Pen clicking on the desk

You watch your father from his desk

Working diligenlty

you watch your stepmother taking care of the family the way she does things

So meticulously and you wonder what your purpose is

Andyouwonderifyou'lleverfinditbutyoucan'tletanyoneknowthatyoufeellikeyouwon'tmakeit

who is your inspiration

Pen clicking on the desk

the words are flowing better now

the breaths are getting stronger now

And when you're asked what is your inspiration

You answer

People

Your family

My family

myself
