Inspiration

I find my inspiration everywhere-
in a glance from a stranger
a word twisted by my eyes and my mind
a dream in the middle of the night half-forgotten by day
my rage, my fear, my happiness-
my daydreams when I have to escape

I compare my work to that of others- but only criticise myself
But I say NO, this is my work, I will not destroy myself
And then I lose myself in dreams and return again inspired

Dreams started by encounters in reality
We can't get through one without the other
Dreams that my hand puts to paper
Dreams that forever change some part of the world-
Even though it may just be one piece of paper-

And I let myself dream, see the world-
what it could be,
what it could have been,
what I can make it,
what others can make it,
and again find inspiration

Then someone speaks to me

My dream will forever be changed-
but not for the worse
This new inspiration gives my secret world more ideas
And it grows

And we allow ourselves to dream
