I.N.S.P.I.R.A.T.I.O.N
I always thought my biggest motivation was myself
because I wouldn't settle for anything less than perfect.
Now, I know that perfection is not the true goal,
rather it is knowing that I worked hard for it.
See, I want to be great, but "great" is a loosely defined word.
Perhaps, I want to be like Michelle Obama who empowered youth around the nation.
I could be like Lin Manuel-Miranda who has not only mastered his craft of lyrical rhyme,
but who never forgets his roots.
Really though, my role models are the people I will mention in my Grammy speech
(this will not happen because I don't sing, but a girl can dream.)
At the end of the day, it is my mother who paved the way.
This Southern bred single mother of 4 kids who believed wisdom is the key,
and God is the truth.
In her, I see myself, the good, the bad, and the ugly,
the one person who actually wants me to do better than them.
On the days that I fall, she is there to pick me up,
and when triumphs come, she's my number one fan.
Now, I pray to inspire others the way my mom has inspired me.
