Inspiration of Fire

People say that inspiration is like the water

How each ripple represents an impact on the next

But you were like fire

Your passion, your desire

Centered in my life

You fought for yours

Everyday strong

Every battle long

In your place, I would have failed

However, your courage prevailed

Till your last breath did you teach

To each new student your story I will preach

A battle well fought and a story never ending

For in my heart your fire is everlasting

This poem is about the loss of a close friend due to her battle with cancer. I had known her for many years as my mentor in Goju Kai Karatedo. She was the strongest woman I have ever known, and she fought stage four cancer for months, which should have been impossible. Later that year she had passed away. I had tested for and gotten my black belt only months after, knowing she was beside me the whole time. She was my inspiration and continues to inspire me with her strength, kindness, and courage every day. To every new student I will tell the story of the strongest black belt I have ever known.
