Inspiration Strikes
I am inspired
by a mid-morning breeze
the water drop that falls on my head from the roof
like the apple hitting Newton's head
I am inspired
by the bow of her lip
the curve of a shoulder
and waves of hair crashing into soft cotton and down
I am inspired by the salty spray
the way it stings my eyes and bites my tongue
waking me up and inflating my lungs
with helium and sunshine
I am inspired by the dirt and the earth
the breaking of ground
the trod of a footprint
the mark that someone was here
I am inspired by hard work
by marching feet and picket signs
by handwritten letters and cries for change
by late nights and long books.
I am inspired by the fluid changes and movements of society
but most of all
I am inspired by you.
