Integrity
I covered the mirror and went on my way.
They looked with their eyes, so they did not see.
What was expected is what was given.
Above and beyond by flamboyant measures.
Unneeded and pointless, they saw what they saw.
Then the light went out and I was in the dark.
They could not see or pretend to look.
What was done in the dark is the question unasked.
I covered the mirror so no one could see, especially me.
Who was I in the dark?
Did I laugh and smile, love and be free?
Or did I steal and cheat things that weren’t meant for me?
Did my courage fail, did renounce my beliefs?
Is the dark my enemy or my friend?
Because I am blind, can anyone still see?
What’s done in the dark is brought to the light.
When no one is watching, is am I still me?
Only I can know, only I was there.
Only I know that I stood tall.
That I faltered, but never fell.
This thing called integrity, it’s hard to describe.
No one to impress, no one there to judge.
It’s the reason behind your actions when it’s just you and God.
