Intellectual Scholars

Education is
something all of us agree is important.
Yet all over the world and in places we dare not go
many are ignorant without it.
The lower class, African Americans, and women
at some point in history were denied it.
Today many think students take education for granted;
particularly when they attend their functions.
Functions of ill manners and drunkenness,
are seen as a commonplace, you know.
They say many college students who fail,
were more attentive to their fun than studies.
There are days I wonder,
if this is really true.
Yet at this rate I may never know,
since my chances of going myself are quite low.
The prospect of parties and independence,
is not what draws me to attend.
Rather,
the very thought of my textbooks makes me excited.

So today I wonder like any other day,
why are the fortunate ones throwing it all away?
