An interesting Noose

I am a firm believer,

In the ideal that you can tell everything about a man,

From his tie.

My father wore plain ties

because they were easy to match

with vision blurred

from his drink.

My favorite teacher wore funny ties

with flying pigs, and dancing monkeys,

Not because we liked them,

Because when he was sad he looked down,

And when he laughed he looked up.

My grandfather wore paisley

Because it was formal

and he demanded to be taken seriously

But it was also my favorite.

My best friend wore an eldredge knot,

Because he was insecure.

I will recognize the love of my life,

Because he will not wear a tie,

I would prefer his neck,

Unbruised.
