Interesting Twist

Being diagnosed with lupus

Made me realize that I

Was not a kid anymore.

Being able to do my usual routines

Was something of the past because

A new way of eating, exercising, communicating is a must.

Realizing I had to incorporate these new changes

two days before my fifteenth birthday was eye-opening for me.

Change after change made me

Frustrated.

Kids don’t ache from sitting on the couch.

They don’t wake up sore from sleeping at night.

I believe that these adjustments really helped me thrive

although I didn’t see it then.

This experience has taught me so much

Patience, durability, and appreciation.

I had patience when doctors were at odds.

Durability came when waking up stiff

Was normal to me.

Two days after being diagnosed I woke up from a nap

With so much appreciation.

The medicine was working, the switches we made helped guide me

To where I am now.

In school and in my personal life.
