Intermission

I stood at the edge of the world.

My fists crumbled into paper balls

my fingers melted like candlewax

my tears evaporated as they fell

Something had left me.

I was helpless.

Flames threatened to consume me.

My face began to char

like burnt aluminum

“This isn’t real”

“It’s not real”

“Wake up.”

my toes

fell off

one

by

one.

Like little corndogs.

Laughing

Laughter is the Bluebird’s song after the apocalypse

announcing Happiness has not been eradicated,

Life will return.

Little by little,

I realized that the show will go on

the show must go on,

Misery is an

Intermission.

Laughter pulls the ropes

and opens the curtains.
