Internal Weather Forecast

Sometimes I get caught in a storm.

I resist the strong winds pushing me down

I hold back the flooding in my eyes

I keep the weight of debris left behind

in my tightly curled fists

and in my unmoving expression-

a mess of blankness and happiness

all rolled together into one

just to keep others from worrying about me.

Behind the mirage of being "okay"

I am a twisted mess of anxiety and sadness

sleeping until my mind is foggy,

blurred enough to be able to forget what a mess I'm hiding inside

just for a little while
