"Invisible"

Clothes invisible ivory But clear and seen by all In the skin of the gods these emperors walk To join them in their court A thought once unheard of Now real as day and night With gates broken, forts pierced Warming royalty's seats Assured we're now the same Laughs echo from on high Through the castle dungeons For a time that heals wounds And patience a virtue Or actions dwarfing words Criers sing eternal Of invisible ivory Spoken of in private Yearned for in the present Slashing open old pains Without it, what have you? A home life good as theirs A family good as theirs Built on the bravest backs And fear behind the eyes Doors locked at all times Kept out inner confines Built on quite the same backs For invisible ivory Take the shine from our eyes And the dust off old bones To see what really is Power held overhead Lifetimes of safeguarding Can't hide that ivory Is brittler than gold hearts
