Invisible disabilities

Dear teachers,

Are you aware of the invisible disabilities and that they exist.

What is that ? You may say and I'll say ignorance is bliss .

Its the mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety making people wish they didn't exist.

Students sit in your class having silent attacks

Going to the doctors all the time missing your class

Now you think they just slack

When they ask for your help you say "you should have been in my class".

Now they really feel like they have no help

Too many times have I brought in a note stating my illness and accommodations...

But because I'm a little black girl I "can't have what's on that paper"

When will people learn that mental illness doesn't have a specific look

When will teachers learn these things exist..sometimes people go through things

School can cause added stress and sometimes we need added help

You never know what people go through

Be the light .. be someone's "Whew".

Sincerely Na'Talia (That depressed little black girl)
