Invisible Stop Signs
You drowned
Lovestruck in a flooded town
Shirt buttoned up wear your hair down
Skin’s smooth, tan, and brown
You’re too sad to frown
You know
Everything goes
Back to the memories you hold so close
Slow dancing where moonlight glows
And lightning wind blows
Now
You forgot how
You used to feel proud
Got lost somewhere in a black cloud
And that’s allowed
So
Just go
Down that flooded road
See if you can make it home
And rip apart those love letters that you wrote
You
Can see through
That cracked rear view
Mirror to
Someone who’s never heard of you
I
Do not know why
You don’t even try
To leave it behind
Like a hitch hiker needing a ride
Few
If any knew
That love would undo
All of the things that you held onto
It’s shocking but true
Why
Didn’t I
Wipe away the tears you cried?
I’m feeling like
This life passed you by
And I don’t know
How you let it all go
Bright Eyes
You’re my moonlight cowgirl
I hang on every word you say
You’re my moonlight cowgirl
And those old denim jeans are frayed
You got dirt on your boots
And I see some straw in your hair
Radio plays the blues
You live out in the mountain air
You’ve been here your whole life
You got no plans of leaving town
Sharpened your daddy’s knife
And you got your dog from the pound
You stand in the moonlight
And your beautiful eyes shine bright
Hollywood Sign
You took my picture by the Hollywood sign
You know I’ll never forget
All the times
You let
Me run into your arms
We went our separate ways and things done changed
You scratched the hardwood floor
Your curtain’s stained
Punched the door
And shattered some windows
You and I used to ride around our hometown
But we don’t do that no more
And I forgot how
I felt torn
You can do me no harm
Can’t be mad because I did what’s best for me
Can’t hold onto you with
A memory
And then slip
On what I used to know
Hurt me when you were slow to say I love you
And I was patient for a while
So we stuck like glue
Backing tile
Which fell off over time
Phone plugged into the electrical socket
And I have no plans of calling you
Because I can’t fit
What you do
Into this life I’ve made
Cold wind blowing love letters off the table
Made a mess scattered envelopes
Written in bold
Pen strokes
That got lost in your mind
Sometimes I think my pillow still smells like you
When I’m wrapped up in my blankets
And I can hardly move
When it’s
Sharp but these feelings fade
But stick on my mind like splinters in my palm
This touch reminds my broken heart
To just stay calm
And start
To turn this brass doorknob
And walk into the next dusty room and think
That everything is wonderful now
With rosy glasses walls are pink
They wrap around
The pain that holds me close
As a handrail with a couple loose screws
I know it can’t be like this forever
My eyes still stare through
Your lying words
Tied my stomach in knots
It’s hard to accept that I used to love you
When I know you can’t fix what you broke
But you play it off like it’s cool
Cigarette smoke floats
And an icicle froze
You took my picture by the Hollywood sign
You know I’ll never forget
All the times
You let
Me run into your arms
I sat in my chair you came in from behind
And laid a kiss on my cheek
Never thought I’d find
You in a week
You could say that’s my charm
Sleeping
In a king
Sized bed thinking
We
Can bring
It back to being
Something
We used to be
But you’re stuck in lunacy
I see
You’re running
From problems you can out drink
No
Way to know
How these feelings sink slow
Heartbreak blown
In through the window
Mind state sucked right through a black hole
