Island

I'm living proof that men can be islands.

With no itch to share a thought or two
And no need to feel understood.

I'm living proof that islands make good tourist attractions
Especially in times like these; poplar groves are in fashion,
That as islands lie there in the middle of the sea
They spark in foreign pleasurable men the desire to feel
Or heal and keep in touch with their own solitudes;
To relax, confront and see themselves in the nude.

I am the bloody fact in the flesh
That although societal norms seem to unite us,
They can break us apart into islands
Of self-hate
Or self-love
And fortunate outcasts that float off
And are unbothered, untouched, unphased
By the distant shores and lands that want to so badly
Ironically be one and the same with them.
