An Island of Music
What can’t I live without? I could go down
A more literal path: air, food, water.
Something typical: family, friends, love.
But are any of those answers the first?
The dilemma: I could live without those
It would be tough, but it is possible
What is it that I cannot live without?
Music.
The way the melody rings in my head.
How the lyrics save lives unknowingly.
The moment when you hear a song, and know.
This person understands. You're not alone.
You are hit with a wave of emotions,
You're feeling so many different things,
Relief swims throughout your mind. Finally.
The loneliness starts to fade. They get it.
The way the words resonate within you,
Stuck within your head for eternity.
Well, that's how it feels. Washing away an
Invisible mold of expectations.
Resisting the standards they place on you.
Music.
Dreaming, daring, desiring the sound.
This is art, existing within oneself.
There are no brush strokes, other than of one’s feelings.
But then the inevitable happens:
The song comes to its final conclusion.
Allowing the loneliness to return,
You can only watch as it seeps back in
But then the answer comes: restart the song,
And you are back, reveling in the bliss.
What can't I live without? The answer is
Music.
