Isn't that Right?
Can you really ignore what’s staring you right in the face?
The ragged lines you left me
Gave me
Carved into me
Branded into me
Line by line
Streak by Streak
Digging deeper
And deeper
Inch by Inch
By the very hands that you swore
YOU SWORE
Would
Love me
Care for me
Protect me
Instead
With those hands very hands
You broke me
I still feel everything
Every mark you made
The pain never fully subsided
But now its worse
A constant numbness
That no matter
How many pills
Or potions I take
Its always there
You are always with me
Nights are always restless
The thing I wanted to use to forget
Is a constant re accounting of that night
Sleep isn’t sleep anymore
I couldn’t
Why?
How could you?
When I couldn’t
We had everything
And you threw it away
Was that price something you really wanted to pay?
The trust
That we built
The memories
That we made
The obstacles
That we overcame
Did those mean nothing?
Anything
To you
At all?
But I guess I’m to blame right?
I wasn’t what you expected
What you wanted
What you hoped I would become
Wishful thinking
Shattered in a moment
By your actions
But Forced by me
Right?
But of course I have to agree
That’s the way things were
That’s the way things are
Two people
Supposedly sworn to have equal standing
But never in the eyes of society
One has wronged
And one will take the blame
In our society that’s how it is
Isn’t that right?
Something wrong with this poem?
