Isosceles

It's funny the way this place works out Momma says it will all be done, so long as I stay downstairs Downstairs, I don't see the bad Downstairs, I can't see the room We all like being fake We like to make believe the floors we sleep on arent' rooted to tumult and rockslides I know I'm laying on something fake, but I don't mind sleeping down here. Sleeping, I don't have to look at our roofs. Daddy promises there were made perfect but I can tell the roofs are not equilateral. They are not. They never have been. The roofs around me which are built on the principles of inequality foster the bad The anger, the loneliness... I sometimes lie on the reckless Ground and wait for the quiet screams in my mind to Decrescendo to angles matching the isosceles roof tops.

This poem was based off of a postcard I saw in my english classroom. It was agreed nearly unanimously by my class that there was nothing out of the ordinary and peculiar about the picture. Discrimination is often times deal with in a similar manner. Unless someone gives it the attention it requires, the problems ignored continue to crack and leave those in peril vulnerable. This poem, in many ways works to expose that truth through the eyes of a child.

This poem was made after looking at a postcard in my english class. It was agreed by everyone in my classroom that there was nothing "wrong" with the picture. Discrimination is often treated likewise. It is excused as nothing out of the ordinary at face value, but with the proper dissection, the truth is revealed. This poem expresses that truth.
