It’s not a what but a who

One word

One vicious word that makes us shudder

C-a-n-c-e-r

Your world is crumbling, therefore so is mine

You are paler, weaker, sadder

I become the adult here

I watch you get scared, but I hide my fears

I am the adult now, I have to be

The chemo makes you weak, I can see that

The chemo makes me weak to, but you can’t see that

You won’t see that

I will be the adult now so you can rest

I am stronger because you are weaker

I am stronger but still terrified

You will only see the smile I present to you

That’s what adults do right?

We can do this mom

I will be the adult here; you just get better

I will show you no fear and guide you through

I will shoulder the responsibilities so you can rest

I am the adult here now

I am telling you to get better

I am telling you to fight this

I am telling you to beat this

You have to listen to me

Because I am the adult here

Because I said so
