IT
The darkness just sat there.
It crawls like it is curious
One of a child it seems.
It tries to come closer to me
But the light keeps it away
It doesn’t have a shadow
Since it is Shadow it self
The mist, it looks, seems to be its body
It is as thick as a nightly fog
A cloud of puff that can’t be blown
It makes a noise of paws when it moves
The light keeps me safe
It is bright and warm and comforting
But it changes
When it does, I must run
Run fast, before it gets me
I can fight it off but it is strong
It hurts when it touches me
It makes me go mad
Oh, so mad
I can’t remember who I am
Or where I am
I don’t remember
My birth, my life, my suffering, nothing
My hair, my eyes, my face, a blank
Math, songs, drinks, no clue
When it touches me I forget
I lay here on the floor
Buried in this light
Fear of it changing
Having to catch up
So scared, very scared
I stare at my hands
With one thought in mind
What should I do?
I can’t let the darkness get me
But I am tired
I am feeling weak
I am losing myself
How long has it been?
Since this chase of cat and mouse began
If it had eyes, they would be big
For I am his prey
If it had lips, it would be licking them
For it knows how I taste
If it was human, only if it was human
It would be impatient with anticipation
For I am its long-awaited prize
I have dubbed it “Black Sow”
For it looks it
But it isn’t a wonderland
I have tried searching for windows
To tell me where I am
But this place is solid
It seems man-made
But no man to make it
No bodies, no blood
Only mine
There is a door
One door, one way, one exit
The light never stops there
It passes every time
Not that it will help
The debris stops me from leaving
The walls around it are solid
Like this whole place
How did it get there?
How did I get here?
Nothing answers my questions
Like everything else
The light flickered
The non-beast perked up
It knows it has another chance
To get me, to eat me
Till I am nothing left
Funny that’s how I feel
Nothing
I should be that
That is my name now
Nothing
The light changed
And after it I went
With the Shadow after me
Just get there Run
Don’t look back Just get there
Run Don’t think
Don’t worry Just run
Running For my life
Which is known for nothing
I am almost there
I was too late
It had gotten in front of me
How?
Was it when I wasn’t looking?
I don’t know
It stood there not moving
Then it took a shape
Which is new for this creature
That I came to know for a long time
It took a shape of a human
A black form with glowing white eyes
It seems familiar, strangely familiar
I think…it’s me
OH!
The relief of knowing
Knowing how I look
How I am
Even if it is the monster’s version
The creature lifted its arm
It had touched my chest
I didn’t see it happened
I didn’t know it even did it
I do know what happens next
It is…
