Is It a Crime to Hurt?
You laugh out loud as I stare at you.
Do you know what you have done?
I wonder if you see the knife
protruding from my chest,
your hand still wrapped around the handle,
crimson from my pain.
You whisper and giggle as I look down.
Do you think I cannot hear?
I wonder if you see the droplets
drowning my heart inside,
your hand still wrapped around the faucet,
glistening with my despair.
You smile at me as I smile at you.
Do you think I cannot feel?
I wonder if you see the wounds
tearing at my back,
your mouth wide open, your eyes so happy,
blind to the whip you control.
A whip poised and ready, a favorite of your hands,
A whip that strikes when I cry out,
A whip that jeers, a whip that glares,
'Cause it is a crime to hurt.
