It Got Real
It got real and then we hid
With all that we do
With all that we've lost
It's up to you now
Why don't we do things
Like we used to long ago
Once upon a time
When we could just go
When we could go and we'd run
From all that was wrong
And never look back
Until the day was done
Never again would we have to fight
Or watch as the day died into night
Never again would we live so free
All because when it got real, everyone fleed
We'd play and we'd hide
From the demons that tried
To take our spirit
To take our soul away
We fought and we struck
We won, now we're stuck
With who we've become
Since the monsters subside
How are we the people we were back then
I can't imagine how
I can't imagine why
We'd want to be the same naive kids we were
I'll pretend it's ok
I'll say it's all fine
But we remain the changed
We remain deranged
Trapped in screaming bodies
We're like raging wars
We're banging swords
We're lighting fires
Destructive liars
What have we become
How are we living like this
Still unaware of what we've missed
How we suddenly changed
The moment it got real
