It Happened
Soft lullabies from my mother’s lips were exchanged for
Stranger’s wild and well known music
I don’t know when this happened
Fun dinner table conversations turned into
Frustrating argumentation about my future
I don’t know when this happened
Chasing after butterflies transformed to
Catching feelings for the wrong guys
I don’t know when this happened
Birthday celebrations with cake and milk now are
Beach parties with a wide range of wild beverages
I don’t know when this happened
Simple clear lip gloss became
Sexy matte red lipstick now takes its place
I don’t know when this happened
Forever friendships withered into
Farewells that remained final
I don’t know when this happened
Camping trips with the family were traded for
Casual sleepovers with friends
I don’t know when this happened
Basic wardrobe decisions switched to
Bold and complex outfits that made statements
I don’t know when this happened
But it happened and I wish it hadn’t.
