It Hit Me

My little cousins came to visit, ages one and three

They asked, “Are you scared Emily?”

When I responded with “What’s there to be scared of?”

They said “Soon you’re going to leave the home you love.”

And that’s when it hit me,

Someday soon I’d be

Moving out, moving on

And I’d be studying alerons.

I want to be a pilot, I’ve known for a while

I look down and smile,

At my little cousins, ages one and three

I say, “Change is scary, but it’s nothing to be scared of,

when you can come back to the home you love.”
