It hit me, sitting in

It hit me, sitting in the conference room.

It hit me, watching the tears in my mother's eyes.

It hit me, as silence hung heavy in the air.

One thing after the other,

One year before, left the safety and comfort of home.

One year before, entered a world I did not know.

One year before, Was the outsider among the outsiders.

One thing after the other,

I felt smothered

Goodbye childhood, and the comfort you bring.

Goodbye childhood, the peace of belonging.

Goodbye childhood, you were short lived.

One thing after the other,

I felt smothered
