It hurts To Become
There is a slow kind of irony
tracing its way
In lazy lazy
Con-cen-tric circles
through my life
you can see it in the way
I tried to light a candle
in your name
With my last match
from a Fishing Cannery
I took from Jacob
It went out almost instantly
And I didn't stop the smoke
From getting in my eyes
There's something about how
I can't remember
If I was tracing
I Love You
Or
I Am Sorry
On the back of your elbow
Through the grey hoodie
You tied up around your face
to lock us out
Either way
You moved away
Before I finished the words
And it's funny
How I am trying to cling
to your leg
without touching you
Because I am aware
That you are a ship on fire
at sea
And I don't have the strength
to save you
all I want to do
Is drag myself onto
your splintered deck
And burn too
