It Looks RIght at Me
CC BYI do no wrong.
But there is something there,
Something I can't quite make out,
But I know it's there.
It's looking for someone,
Or something.
It dark, monstrous and mean.
It looks right at me.
It's eyes are red and full of evil.
I could tell it was once like me,
Even though we are very different.
No matter how much I want to avoid it,
I will become it soon.
Devoid of anything pure and innocent.
And then it pounces,
Something wrong with this poem?

Your Poem's Voice
Personal anxiety about transformation, but hints at universal corruption/moral decline.
Multiple ideas layered densely: denial, dread, monstrosity, inevitability, loss of innocence.
Heavily negative: darkness, monstrosity, evil, inevitable corruption, and violent conclusion.
Escalating tension; fragmented syntax; predatory imagery; final pounce is visceral and explosive.
Approximately 13-14 lines; falls in 7-15 line range.
Personification of the 'thing'; metaphor of becoming; visceral monster imagery throughout.
Pure lyric internal monologue; speaker's anxious consciousness; no narrative or dramatic persona.
