Is it really now?

I went through this experience

Of just watching, but not saying anything

Watching the cheating

Pretending everything was okay

Being the opposite person that I've always told myself to be

I just smiled to him

Said my 'hellos' every day

Smiling

But all I could think about was the infidelity

I saw what she was doing

But I never said anything

She is supposedly a close friend

So I feel like it's none of my business

Like I just can't possibly do it

I can't tell him; it's not my problem

But I thought about it

Is love really this selfish?

Do people only fall in love

To make themselves happy

And because they are lavished with attention

Just because it makes them feel special

To have someone accept all

Their insecurities

Is that all love is?

The beginning feels all nice and tingly

Enough for you to actually go and cheat

Can love come from something so wicked?

After looking into it more,

I finally figured out

That love is not selfish

People are selfish

But it is not a completely bad thing

Because I believe that if we weren't a little bit selfish

Then we would not be capable of falling in love

We would not feel or want those special feelings

Someone else gives us

Infatuation

I think that is what is selfish

But we all must go through it before we fall in love

If we get passed that stage in a relationship

Then the connection becomes true love

And then true love makes us selfless

It makes us care about that other person more than ourselves

But if it we never get to true love

Then we will always remain selfish

So I finally figured out

This "friend" of mine

Could never be in love

Because she will never put others before herself
