It Seems I Wrote
Around my heart, there lies a moat,
A raging current of past hurts not forgotten,
Only one escape seemed certain to denote…
So of betrayal, it seems, I wrote.
The castle is now too remote,
The drawbridge no longer welcomes outsiders,
For around my heart lies a fatal moat.
Isolation and safety it promotes,
A sure way to prevent future damages.
So of crippling fear, it seems, I wrote.
On pain, perhaps, I should not gloat,
But old wounds open every day.
Around my heart there lies a moat.
On children, see, the mothers dote,
But when trusted friends deceive, even they too fail.
So of loneliness, it seems, I wrote.
All my time to reading and writing I devote,
Because nothing else is as sentimental,
Around my heart there lies a moat.
I immersed myself in songs, ideas, and notes,
Perspective and inspiration are everything.
Through recovery, it seems, I wrote.
Now, at last, I’ve come afloat,
On a bank of forgiveness and second chances,
Around my heart, there was a moat.
If I sailed away upon a boat,
My past would still follow, I think.
For an escape, it seems, I wrote.
On happiness, before, I could not quote,
But broken hearts, they always mend.
Around my soul was once a moat,
To overcome betrayal, it seems, I wrote.
