It Should've Been You

How is it

That you can forget

So easily

Why can you

Bruise me

And walk away

Turn your cheek

As if

It never meant anything

When to me

It means everything

My world thrown off it's axis

Every time you fell apart

How can you ruin me

And my heart

And feel nothing

You

It was always you

Always because of you

And you never had the nerve

The decency

To turn to me

And tell me

Promise me

It would be okay

Someday

Even if that day didn't come for awhile

For me

It didn't come soon enough

And I sat there

Counted those long cold days

And I watched you

I watched you break

And you had no idea

No clue

What something like that

Like you

Did to me

So take everything

If it means so much to you

Do

What you always do

Cry and break apart

Take whatever is left

Of this broken heart

I couldn't give it away

Even if I wanted to

All those times

Missed moments

Flashing before my eyes

All those times

All those bottomeless lies

I believed as promises

You did nothing

But fill me up

Make me believe it would get better

When we both know

You never meant it

If I can't let go

I turn to you

If it falls apart

I place this heart

In your hands

If I can't hold still

I place this broken will

On your shoulders

All those long nights

Endless fights

All those times I watched you

Cry

All those moments

You didn't know how to be there

While I was always there

Everywhere

I was always right there

Too young to know

But old enough

To know

You shouldn't feel this way

And you

You should've been the one

The one

To get me through it

Your mess

It should've been you

To never

Ever

Let it get that bad
