It Started as a Friendship
"You have to marry your best friend."
And that's what I did.
I wasn't looking for a boyfriend,
I wasn't looking for a partner,
That person found me.
We started as friends;
I liked his honesty,
His straightforward loyalty and trust.
I liked that he would listen,
Whenever I would fuss.
He was open minded,
And willing to talk,
About the good,
About the bad,
"Communication is Key."
And he has been the best friend to me.
I wasn't looking for a boyfriend,
I wasn't looking for a partner,
I found a friend,
Whom I intend to marry,
Just like my mother always said.
