it started in my 8th

it started in my 8th grade english class.

the teacher screaming at us about not paying attention,

yet i was sitting in my seat with a pen.

a pen that introduced me to a form of releasing the pain.

the pen that brought me to my best friend.

poetry.

poetry has watched me grown into the intelligent woman i am today.

poetry has seen my tears of sarrow and tears of joy.

what school doesn't teach us, i've learned through my paper and pen.

Aren't you thankful for that 8th grade English class?
