Is It Still Funny?

How funny is it that we forget

Only the things that we need to remember

And never the things we wish we don’t?

I forget about my mother’s birthday,

But I remember the day my father almost murdered my mother

After stumbling home drunk

I forget where I left my car keys,

But I remember the day I found out my uncle rammed his car into a tree

By the police coming to my door at 7:31AM

I forget the names of old friends,

But I remember the day you told me

That I was worthless

Funny how that works, right?
