It Still Hurts

Pain

Allegedly temporary,

but I’m not convinced.

My eyes still fill with tears as I read what I've written,

feeling the pain that should be gone;

because “pain is temporary”.

I still watch you in my mind, leaving,

“In slow motion, you walk down the path

a path I can't follow you down“.

I still miss your arms, protecting me.

I still cry about it;

you not remembering,

“she blames herself for what you've done

but you just don't remember.

And now you ask us how we got here?!

don't blame us for what you’ve done

YOU dragged us down this path,

oh right, you don't remember”.

I still hold her at night while she cries.

But we have to keep going,

and pretend we don’t feel it;

the pain.

So I still write,

And tell myself that pain

is only temporary.
