It was like yesterday
It was like yesterday, when I was woken up by my mother and a family friend terry eyed trying to utter the painful words of death to an eight year old. Eight years my grandfather knew me but yet the only thing I can only remember is his body lying peacefully in his steel casket. It felt like a bee sting to the heart or maybe it was more like a gun shot straight through my heart that has never healed but rather has been filled with the memories shared with me. This pain was new, the pain was real, this pain hurts. It was like yesterday, when i was woken up in the same bed by the same face that read the signs of death. No words were spoken but just teirs feel in the same place as they did six months ago. It was foreseen that my grandmother could live with her first love. Bearing the desae of altimers was hard for me to see but was a struggle of hers that she didn't even know she had. I feel deep down that she knew. She knew her husband gone and she knew god had called him home. Eight years my grandmother knew me and the only thing I remember is her calling me a snitch because I wouldn't let her leave the house. I remember the hospital visits, I remember the story of her passing holding my father's hand, but most importantly I remember the pain. The pain was no longer new but a little more tolerable. This gun shot was quick but like the last filled with the memories of thanksgivings, christmases and summers. I found it weird that we could all sit at the dinner table and discuss the good times when I only remember the bad. It was like yesterday, when my mom and dad came to tell me my grandfather had passed. That night I cried myself to sleep and the next morning was hoping on a flight to michigan to go commemorate his loss. Fourteen years my grandfather knew me. He has become my role model and is the main reason i play golf today. This pain was different, this pain was not filled with memories but healed soon after. It was yesterday when my mom told me my grandmother was sick. I fear the same fate lies in her destiney too where she is soon to be called home. I fear that my kids will sing this same song of pain and sorrow that will one day be turned into a hymn sang by their kids about me.
