It's All I Got
I used to think of what I didn't have or own,
Instead of being happy just having a stable home,
I wanted a pool, a big tv, a wide open backyard,
I also wanted for my elders not to work so hard, to have nothing, I wanted something,
and I thought that something was on commercials,
The newest toy "Oh boy!" that seems swell to a child,
but to be able to afford it, that dream is to wild,
I wanted nice clothes name brands to be cool,
because all I see is Hollister shirts and Jordan shoes at school,
I just wanted to be like everyone else before,
and nobody wanted clothes from a department store,
I wanted good grades, but didn't care to study,
I wanted cuter features,
tired of looking at the mirror and seeing ugly,
I wanted to be noticed, wanted to be a standout,
but after I felt no one wanted me,
friends where nothing I cared about,
What I did have was a whole lot inside,
All the images of being the one looking from the outside,
I heard a poetry slam of poets speaking their souls,
Next thing I know, I got something to show,
Take a, pencial to a page
and it bring to life by jotting down my rage,
my tears, my joys, my deepst darkest fears,
Write the words clear and all of sudden I have peers,
And people who wanna hear me speak far and near,
Some people use it for pleasure, some use it to entertain,
I use it to speak, for those who have had nothing but pain,
I typed up this poem one day on the spot,
Just to let you know I write Poetry,
Because it's all that I got- Peter Rico
