It's The Internet's Fault
My heart pounds through my chest
Blame it on the internet
My breathing hitches and my palms sweat
Blame it on the internet
If I would just turn it off
Then all my problems I’d forget.
Or at least that’s what he says
He thinks social media
Is the evil thing that is suppressing our youth
An easy fix
But the depressing truth is
suffering is forever prevalent
And the current rise
Is honestly no surprise to me
When I think of the way they are treated
When I think of the lives that they’re leading
When I think of the burdens they carry,
The cautions and the wary
uncertainty they are faced with
The pressure placed
It overwhelms me.
Maybe I’m being overdramatic
But sometimes I look at all of this erratic
Chaos around me and find that maybe it’s
His fault.
He says that it’s ruining my generation.
My generation?
My generation
According to him
Is selfish
And unpredictable
And oh so egotistical
And it’s because of technology.
Yes, technology is what is ruining children,
Definitely not the people who raised them.
Definitely not the world they were raised in.
I’m not saying that the internet
Is all good
I know that
It can leave a negative impact on people
But it’s irresponsible
To peg all of our problems
On something that isn’t even acting on it’s own.
The people using it is what makes it bad
And those people would be in our world
And individual lives
Regardless.
My head is swirling with self-hate
Blame it on the internet
I turn to self-destructive habits
Blame it on the internet
I don’t even have social media
But let’s all blame it on the Internet.
It's all your fault.
