Its Just a Phase
Together: It’s just a phase
Person 1: Is it a phase when she’s the only thing I can think about?
Person 2: Is it a phase if when I look at her the world seems a little bit lighter than usual?
Person 1: When he looks at me like I’m the only other person in the room?
Person 2: When I can’t help but admire how his laughter fills the air?
Together: It’s just a phase
T: Is it just a phase when my anxiety tears me limb from limb as I try to tell my parents that I like guys...and girls. That I fear the repercussion from loving who I love and I’m only 17. Is it just a phase where I have to feel the whole world hates me on both sides?
Person 1: Is it just a phase when I realize that for years on end I’ve been in love with my best friend? Who can’t look at me anymore and I sit regretting everything I never told her.
Together: It’s just a phase
Person 1: The phase that’s lasted years without a sign of stopping
Person 2: The phase that was there the whole time, I just didn’t know it
Person 1: Being told I can’t be bi since my lips have never touched another girl’s
Person 2: Being told that because I’ve kissed a boy, I can’t kiss a girl
Person 1: That since I have a boyfriend the other side of me is invalid
Person 2: That I’m invalid
Together: It’s just a phase
Person 2: It’s just a phase! It’s just a phase! It’s just a damn phase! Isn’t it?
Person 1: A phase that makes me hide who I am at home because my parents won’t accept me. A phase I now am terrified to share about myself.
Person 2: A phase where I’m categorized as a slut because I “just can’t pick a side”
Person 1: When my mother looked me in the eyes and said I’d never be able to get married in a church. How god hated me. And then banned me from dating another woman. And has now completely forgotten the conversation.
Together: It’s just a phase. But sometimes being straight is just a phase too.
