It's just stupid.

I have no place to write this poem. Not that there isn't enough room on the page, or space on my hard drive, or not even the fact that I was born only 18 years ago. I'm a straight, white male. Upper middle class. I don't think I've been the victim or prejudice. But I'm not stupid. Or, at least, I try not to be. You see, I've been fortunate enough to have grown up knowing neither melanin nor estrogen determines how well you can hold a job, or get a higher education. Now, this battle was at its fiery height quite a few years ago, when everything was still in black and white. Appropriate, isn't it? I don't think so. You see, this shouldn't be a problem. In fact, it should never have been a problem. But one day, long long ago, even before everything was in black and white, some imbecile on his horse decided that "white is right" and that "only men can win." Ridiculous. Regardless, we know a lot more than we did, when thunder cracks were spirits' screams, and people believed in Hercules, but it took until 2008 to have a black man on the ballot. Isn't it stupid? There's all of this "Sanctity of marriage" this and "voting rights" that and "women in the kitchen" nonsense and "it's not racist if it's true" poppycock but it seems like no one has stopped and said, "isn't it stupid?" Truth is, I passed biology, and it turns out that neither melanin nor estrogen make you better at programming computers, finding cures, sealing deals, raising kids, or writing poems. Truth is, it's just stupid.
