It's the Little Things Really

One of my friends smiled at me the other day

It was one of those infectious ones

It leaves me unable to not smile back

Even now it creeps onto my face

Lips slowly growing upturned at the edges

My cat lay curled up in the sun the other day

She seemed rather content

To be just be in the warm light

I remember the way one of her eyes only barely cracked open

Giving me a satisfied look like she knows more than she really does

My favorite quilt got washed the other day

Fresh out of the dryer it bathed me in warmth

I took a deep breath from it

Taking in the flowery fabric softener

I was about as content as my cat
