It's Not About You

Opening your eyes for the first time means

you can only see things from your point of view.

The Earth keeps turning and the beautiful thing about that is

you can see things from a new perspective.

It just takes time,

and all things do.

Redwood forests, towering sequoias,

patience exudes from their branches.

A reminder that growing happens, whether you accept it or not.

When a child, I was the boulder blocking the stream,

concerned only with the forces holding me together.

Unwilling to feel the coursing of life around me

and impervious to change.

Now an adult, I am the ocean caressing my core,

accepting help from the Moon;

growth is realizing an ant alone drowns,

but together they weather the flood.
