It's Okay to Love Me

Everyday our thoughts are provoked,

To fit in to society, to stand out from the crowd.

"Love yourself!," They say

"But not enough to become vain."

Where is the line drawn? Where we can clearly see.

How appropriate is it to love yourself in this society.

"Love your skin color! It makes you unique, even exotic!"

But how can I? When the world makes my skin seem so toxic.

I'm not white enough for my friends, or black enough to stand out.

Just a delicate shade of brown, stuck in the middle, full of self doubt

"You're so lucky you're skinny! Do you even eat?"

Now you've put me in a box to stay that way, like being skinny is such a feat.

"Never cut your hair. Keep it long and sheen."

But what about the rest, should it never be seen?

It's hard to live in a world that celebrates females all around

While keeping certain parts hidden in the ground.

There's so many things that I can pick on myself

And you know what? You're opinions can go to hell.

I love myself and the way I look even if it's vain.
