It's a Poem
People always ask me what I am.
I tell them I am a poet.
They say that they don't believe me,
So I show them some of my poems.
Needless to say,
They're struck speechless.
Tears well up in their eyes
As their eyes stick to each word
Like roadkill squirrel guts
On a Hummer's tire.
See what I did there?
Simile.
That's an aspect of poetry.
Pretty clever, huh?
But yeah, so like,
They read this one poem I wrote
And they loved it.
It was from the perspective of a baby.
But not just any baby,
This baby was the Antichrist.
It's about his first observations
Coming into the mortal world
As a human being.
It's pretty flipping deep,
Not to toot my own horn.
I'm a poet.
Poet is what I am.
One may consider me a poet.
A poet, by the way, is one who makes poetry.
Like this right here.
This is poetry.
What, you don't agree?
You think this is a joke-poem?
Well, maybe it is,
But that doesn't stop me
From being who I am:
A poet.
