It's a Shame
Lately Ive been giving the world a lot of thought,
and the things every growing child seems to be taught.
There are standards society has built for itself,
they've been ingrained-holding us up like shelf .
And now that my life has been going a little bit long,
I’ve begun to realize many of these “standards” are wrong.
You see, if a straight couple is seen exploring the inside of each others mouths in public - it is sweet and tame.
Yet if two men stand on a bus holding hands they are asked to take a seat - that’s a shame.
If a boy can’t go a day without looking at porn thats “okay” and “normal” since “all boys are the same”,
While a girl asking another to prom with roses and signs is not allowed- thats a shame.
When it is a known fact that 1 in every 6 women are raped and hate their name,
But It is never talked about how 75% of highschoolers are sexually confused-that’s a shame.
While the unmarried, teenage pregnant girl is drunk with her baby daddy making her child lame,
Two girls cannot go to a nice restaurant on a date without getting asked where the rest of their party is- that’s a shame.
When emotionless, carnal sex is shown on tv it is “cute” and expected of fame,
while a single gay kiss on screen is “vulgar” and “ wrong”-thats a shame.
While the average straight person gets a divorce at least once since there is “no more flame”,
Yet same-sex marriage has been illegal longer than marijuana-thats a shame.
When date rape is a “conquest” and “just racking up points” to add to their name,
While a student getting kicked out of school because of who they love is “acceptable”-thats a shame.
When a dad is proud of his son the first time he gets laid or made a girl came,
While another dad kicks his son out for finding a love letter from another boy- thats a shame.
When the pimp uncle exchanging sex for cocaine isn't to blame,
While the gay cousin is only ever mentioned in hushed tones in the dark-thats a shame.
You see, all of these opinions are seen throughout our planet,
and i know I'm not the only one that cannot quite stand it.
more people are affected by these thoughts than you know,
you just aren't aware since they get thrown down if opposite the flow.
At the end of the day we are all part of one race,
the human one- despite the look of your face.
So then tell me why we can't all just show love,
instead our opinion in peoples faces we shove.
Whether you believe what I've said or you strongly say no,
examine that what you do does not knock someone low.
Lets honor and respect each others bodies and form,
and together-just maybe- we can alter the norm.
