It’s that sweet melody of poetry that keeps me from committing a felony
Felony
It feels like hells on me
That melody
I let take over my body

That sweet melody is there for me
Keepin’ me in my sanity.
Lord please don’t let me be in Vanity
Magazine
Because I got caught in a scene
In between
The sheets.

It’s that sweet melody of poetry
That speaks for me
Eats with me
Sleeps with me
The lyrical words that it speaks
The heavenly beats that beat
“Speak to me oh sweet melody
Take me into sweet ecstasy”

It’s that sweet melody that keeps me living endlessly,
Carefully.
It’s that sweet melody of poetry
that shows me to my destiny,
Prepares me mentally
For all the jealousy
The world holds
“Shhh, don’t cry! Take your time and I’ll tell you why.”
She whispers.
I cover my ears to the sound of bitter kickers
Blisters I feel emerging
It’s that sweet melody that keeps me from purging
Her words echo in my head
“Shhh, don’t cry! Take your time and I’ll tell you why.”

It’s that sweet melody that has yet to tell me why
Why not cry
Why not weep
Why not shed tears in my sleep.

It’s that sweet melody of poetry that makes me wonder-
Wonder if not committing a felony was worth it
I’ve given birth to it.
I feel like I’m cursed with it.

It’s that sweet melody that protects me.
It’s that sweet melody that allows me
To reflect the affect
To collect the correct subject
To perfect the object.

It’s that sweet melody of poetry that makes me smile for a while.
Yet I wonder if I’ve been beguiled.
