It's those eyes that get

It's those eyes that get me.

Those eyes that crinkle at the corner, perfectly synchronized with the upturning of your lips.

Your smile conveys so much more than you realize.

It conveys each conversation you have had that slowly chips away at your joy.

Each fight with your parents that didn't go well.

Each kiss you've shared with a person you've just opened up to.

Each momentary sadness that occurs at midnight when you can't sleep and all else seems miserable and dreary.

It's the smile you put on when you receive news you've gotten into college.

And the poker face you put on when you see your mother's eyes start to fill with tears because you've done it, you're making a future for yourself.

You see your future in the bathroom mirror staring back at you, criticizing the way your hair falls haphazardly onto your shoulders.

You envision the conversations you'll be having with your future bosses.

With the president because you've made a life-altering discovery.

It's all there waiting for you.

But who am I, you ask?

There's no time for self-discovery right now.

Because life isn't slowing down, and if you don't speed  up you'll get left behind with your revealing smile and crinkled eyes.
