IV
one day at a time
sometimes in the morning, i like to pretend im sleeping
i don't want to start the day and realize i'm alive again
the morning air isn't crisp anymore, it's usually heavy and sloppy
like a dogs warm tongue on your nose
brushing my teeth and disturbing last nights regrets
swishing the taste of regret in my cheeks and releasing the liquid in a habitual way
i hate to be the person who tells you, you'll never reach the stars
but you and i both know this and we'll continue to drink so i'll forget to say it another day
im depressed again and you follow suit
i smile and you sob
you light a cigarette and i scream about the theory of us
sometimes you look at me and see red
sometimes i look at you and i wish i didnt
you're like a child so i'll hold you through rain storms
you wipe my tears away when i tell you all you do is hurt me
we know we won't last but if we sleep we can forget about it for some time
until we remember again
until we remember again
