I've Heard There's a Light

It is dark in every sense of the word, and

I’m still waiting for my eyes to

adjust.

These feet of mine have been dragging,

dragging through the muck and grime of

urban shadows, ever wandering, always

searching.

I think I’m searching for you.

It’s in these filthy alleyways that

I glimpse your smile, glowing

in the flickering of a streetlamp.

Your eyes shine between the

broken cracks of worn sidewalks,

your laughter dances in the distant sirens

echoing off crumbling brick facades.

But these moments are fleeting,

Illusions of you could never last.

There’s a light at the end of this tunnel,

Or so it goes,

But I’ve never needed the sun.

And this darkness could be beautiful,

If I could just find you.
