i've learned
These are some things I have learned:
Headlights can look like eyes if seen through a dirty window
And no matter how calm you stay bad things can still happen to you
I’ve learned that most car accidents are more inconvenient than painful
I’ve learned that people will stay where they’re comfortable
And if that’s in pain and misery than they won’t be happy
I’ve learned most people are terrible at being happy
Saying “I cross my heart and hope to die” does nothing
Because sometimes I say it lying, hoping that I will actually escape
I don’t
I’ve learned that rearranging my room everyday calms the anxiety
The bed is the heaviest part but the box where I keep old things is the scariest
I’ve learned that I see the good in everyone
Not in a selfless way but in an tiresome way
I can’t help crying when somebody else does
I’ve learned that most hearts are inaccurately drawn by late night shaking hands
And not torn out of chests still beating like mine was
I’ve learned to live with darkness
Some boyfriends force their girlfriends to get drunk and spread their legs
You forced me to drink tea and cover up
I preferred the former
I’ve learned that more people than you would think end up screaming hate into sink basins
When the vodka was poured out by steady hands
I’ve learned a lot of horrible things
But I think the scariest one is we have the power to make ourselves better
I’ve learned that if we label ourselves as broken that’s all we’ll ever be
