I’m Scared
I’m Scared of my skin color.
I’m scared when cop cars pass me by
I don’t know whether to smile or run
But if I do I’ll be gone
I can’t walk down the street without people looking at me.
I can’t go into stores without being followed
or pointed at or talked about
I can’t go to school without someone making a culturist comment without knowing what they’re saying
Living in America is hard work
I hear different cultures talking about different people
Especially if you’re black because everyone is against you
Why is it like that in American where all minorities
Being black should not choose my fate or where I go
But because I’m black I should have the right to be who I want
I should have the same opportunities as a white or lighter-skinned person
I’m scared of my life and my family’s life
A sixteen-year-old kid should not be scared because of the color of there skin
Everyone has a different song so why can’t I
Why do I have to be the same as every other black kid
Why do I have to hear every other black kids song
Like it is my own
I want to be able to go to Howard University and major in Law or psychology
I want to be able to hear people clapping for me
NOT because they took pity on me but because
I walk across the stage and I accomplished something
